1952 F1 Season

The 1952 Formula One season, marking the sixth year of FIA Formula One motor racing, witnessed significant changes from previous years. This season, characterized by a limited number of Formula One races, followed a decision to run all Grand Prix events counting towards the World Championship of Drivers under Formula Two regulations, rather than Formula One. However, the Indianapolis 500, also part of the World Championship, continued under AAA regulations. This year was also notable for making racing helmets mandatory in Formula One. The season spanned from 18 May to 7 September, encompassing eight races. Alberto Ascari, driving for Scuderia Ferrari, emerged victorious as the champion of the 3rd FIA World Championship of Drivers.

The season’s itinerary included the Swiss Grand Prix at Circuit Bremgarten, the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, the French Grand Prix at Rouen-Les-Essarts, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit, the German Grand Prix at Nürburgring, the Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort, and concluded with the Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza. Additionally, the season was marked by the absence of a British driver or team victory, a scenario not repeated until 2023.
