1962 F1 Season

The 1962 Formula One season, the 16th in the history of the FIA Formula One motor racing, featured the World Championship of Drivers and the International Cup for F1 Manufacturers. Spanning nine races from 20 May to 29 December, the season was a pivotal moment in Formula One history. This year saw Ferrari struggle due to internal challenges and the significant advancement of British teams. Graham Hill, driving for BRM, emerged victorious after an intense season-long battle with Jim Clark in the innovative monocoque Lotus 25. The season also marked the only Grand Prix win for Porsche, achieved by Dan Gurney at Rouen. Cooper won their last race until 1966, while Lola made its debut in Grand Prix racing. Jack Brabham began his journey as a constructor, earning his first points in his own car. Tragically, this season was marred by the deaths of Ricardo Rodríguez at the non-championship Mexican Grand Prix and Gary Hocking at the Natal Grand Prix in South Africa. The year also saw the end of Stirling Moss’s racing career following a severe accident, and the rise of Ricardo Rodríguez as the youngest driver to score championship points at the time, a record he held for 38 years.
