Read Recaps From The

1970 F1 Season

The 1970 Formula One season, the 24th season of FIA’s Formula One motor racing, was a historic yet somber year in the sport. Spanning 13 races from 7 March to 25 October, the season was marked by the posthumous awarding of the Drivers’ Championship to Jochen Rindt, making it the only season to date where this has occurred. Rindt, who died four races before the season’s end, had accumulated enough points to remain unchallenged for the title. Lotus claimed the Constructors’ title. The season was tragically underscored by multiple fatalities, including Bruce McLaren, who died while testing a Can-Am car, and Piers Courage, killed at the Dutch Grand Prix. It also marked the end of an era, as triple World Champion Jack Brabham retired, concluding a remarkable Formula One career that began in 1955.
