1972 F1 Season

The 1972 Formula One season, marking the 26th season of FIA’s Formula One motor racing, was a notable year in the sport’s history. The season, which spanned from 23 January to 8 October, included twelve races and was significant for the introduction of safety features on all circuits. Emerson Fittipaldi of Brazil, driving for Team Lotus, emerged as a dominant force, becoming the youngest World Champion at that time. The season was also marked by Team Lotus’s innovative black and gold livery under the John Player Special brand.

Significant races included the rain-soaked Monaco Grand Prix, where Jean-Pierre Beltoise claimed his only championship win, and the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, dominated by Jacky Ickx. The season saw the return of the Argentine Grand Prix after a long hiatus, with Carlos Reutemann making a remarkable debut. The British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch was another highlight, with Fittipaldi securing a win. The season concluded with the United States Grand Prix, where Jackie Stewart triumphed. However, the season was not without its challenges, as the Dutch and Mexican Grands Prix were cancelled due to safety and financial issues, respectively.
