2011 F1 Season

The 2011 Formula One World Championship, the 65th season of FIA Formula One motor racing, was a showcase of Sebastian Vettel’s dominance in the sport. Driving for Red Bull Racing, Vettel not only defended his World Championship title but also became the youngest double World Champion in Formula One history. His team, Red Bull Racing, retained the Constructors’ Championship, marking a period of their supremacy in the sport. The season was also notable for the return of Pirelli as the tyre supplier, replacing Bridgestone and bringing new dynamics to race strategies.

Amidst the high-speed drama, McLaren’s Jenson Button finished a distant second in the championship, trailing Vettel by a record 122 points, while Mark Webber, Vettel’s teammate, secured third place for the second consecutive year. The season included the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, expanding Formula One’s global footprint. However, the Bahrain Grand Prix was cancelled due to political unrest. The season saw five World Champions on the grid, adding to the intensity of the competition. The year was also marked by significant team and driver changes, including Lotus Racing’s transformation into Team Lotus and the controversial dual presence of teams using the Lotus name. The season, spanning 19 races, began in Australia and concluded in Brazil, with Vettel’s supremacy being the central narrative throughout the year.
