2019 F1 Season

The 2019 Formula One World Championship, marking the 70th running of the Formula One World Championship, was a season of continued dominance by Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. The championship, contested over twenty-one Grands Prix, saw Hamilton successfully defend his World Drivers’ Championship for the second year running, winning his sixth championship title at the United States Grand Prix. Mercedes also defended their World Constructors’ Championship, securing the title for the sixth consecutive year at the Japanese Grand Prix, tying Ferrari’s record from 1999 to 2004. The season was also notable for the 1000th World Championship race, the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix.

Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas finished as the runner-up, while Max Verstappen, driving for Red Bull-Honda, finished in third place. The season witnessed several key changes, including Red Bull Racing ending its twelve-year partnership with Renault to switch to Honda engines. Sauber was renamed Alfa Romeo Racing, and several driver changes occurred, including the debut of Alexander Albon, Lando Norris, and George Russell. The 2019 season was characterized by Mercedes’ continued supremacy, Hamilton’s remarkable performance, and the emergence of new talent in Formula One.
